Innovative Strategies to Increase Screening of Children for Lead Poisoning

Protecting children from exposure to lead is crucial to lifelong health, as even low levels of lead in blood have been shown to affect children’s IQ, ability to pay attention, and academic achievement.

Research shows there is no safe level of lead exposure for infants and young children. Effects of lead exposure cannot be corrected, but lead poisoning can be prevented with timely screenings and lead education. In this webinar, panelists Nancy Rothman, Deepa Mankikar and Shawana Mitchell discuss community-based strategies and partnerships to increase screening for childhood lead poisoning, while highlighting successful local lead screening initiatives.
